Struggling With Procrastination?

Who has struggled with procrastination or laziness? *raises hand*

I have always struggled with procrastination. I would put things off until the last minute and then justify it by saying that I worked well under pressure. While I do believe that to be true, that was never an excuse for me to not take care of my responsibilities when I needed to.

I believe God is working some things out of me in this season and procrastination is one of them. Being a go-getter is something I have always prayed for. I feel a tug almost every day to work on my writing, fill out scholarships, or just be productive. When I choose to scroll on social media or watch TV all day, I feel like I’m being disobedient.

If you struggle with procrastination, ask yourself:

Why do I procrastinate?

Do I really have time to procrastinate or be lazy?

For me, I mainly procrastinate when it comes to doing things that seem hard or take up a lot of my time. Sometimes I feel like I don't have the time to work on certain things like my writing or scholarships. How is it that I didn’t time to take care of my responsibilities, but I had time to watch YouTube videos or scroll social media all day? It seemed like every time I was ready to write; I would get attacked with procrastination. I realized that the enemy was using procrastination to keep me from fulfilling what God wanted me to do.

You can’t want better for yourself if you aren’t willing to put in the work. God isn’t going to just hand us our destiny if we’re not willing to work for it or prove that we are ready for it.

This may be extreme, but now whenever I procrastinate, I look at it as me saying yes to the enemy and no to God. It’s like saying no to bettering myself by trying to overcome procrastination and work harder. I never feel fulfilled after procrastinating, but I do after I take care of my responsibilities.

Procrastination is a literal fight to be disciplined. You have to be so intentional about reaching your destiny that you won’t allow procrastination to have space in your life. Don't let procrastination rob you of your valuable time when you could be doing something productive.

So if you have been struggling with procrastination, say this with me, “Procrastination has no resting place in my life! I will complete what God wants me to do!” Let’s choose to see time as a gift from God and use it wisely!
