Spiritual Authority as a Believer

Updated: Nov 19, 2020

As a blood-bought child of God, you must be aware of the authority you carry through Jesus Christ.

Excuse me but I am a little fired up. During this stay-at-home order, God has been teaching me all about the spiritual authority I possess. Just earlier this week I found myself in an inward battle. I would wake up and go to bed with feelings of extreme sadness and was unconsciously drowning in it.

My first instinct when attacked with loneliness and extreme sadness was to cry. So I cried. But then I recognized that although It’s okay to be sad, it’s not okay to allow that to rest in my spirit for long. That could open a door for the enemy to attack with darker thoughts or in other areas.

I recognized the battle I was in, so I began to pray and cast my cares on God. He then reminded me of Hebrews 4:12 which reads:

For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart. ESV

Let me be clear by saying this, the authority over satan is only available for those who believe in Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior and put their trust in Him.

Here is the simple Gospel: God, existing through Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, created earth and mankind to enjoy His creation. However, Adam and Eve fell into sin by partaking of the forbidden fruit, which affected all of mankind. Sin separated us from God. But God, out of His great love, already had a plan in mind to reconcile the lost back to Him. Jesus, being fully God and man, walked this earth and lived as our example. He then died on our behalf and rose again in 3 days as our guarantee that everyone who repents of their sins and trusts in Him alone is forever forgiven and can rest with him in Heaven for all eternity.

If you don’t know Christ, but desire to know Him and want to give your life to him, say this prayer to God, "Father in Heaven, I am a sinner. I humbly come before you today repenting of my sins and asking for your forgiveness. Cleanse me of all unrighteousness. I believe in my heart and today confess with my mouth that your son Jesus Christ died on the cross for my sins and rose from the dead to reconcile me back to you. I invite you to come into my heart and life. Thank you for saving me and for granting me eternal life, in your son, Jesus Christ name I pray, Amen."

If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 ESV

Matthew 28:18 states that all authority in Heaven and earth has been given to Jesus. Because you are a believer in Jesus Christ, the authority has been given to you as well. If you have been attacked with feelings of sadness, depression, anxiety, or the like, you must combat it with the Word of God. The Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword. Arm yourself with the Whole Armor of God stated in Ephesians 6:10-20. Then you must bind the spirit behind it and loose freedom in Christ Jesus. Truly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth shall be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth shall be loosed in heaven. Matthew 18:18 Plead the blood of Jesus over your space! Take authority over your thoughts and mind and make it submit to Jesus Christ and the Word of God. We destroy arguments and every lofty opinion raised against the knowledge of God and take every thought captive to obey Christ. 2 Corinthians 10:5

"The victory over Satan and demons are already won by Jesus! As far as Heaven is concerned, every captive is loosed!"

-Frank Hammond, Pigs in the Parlor

I want to pray over anyone who may be reading this and is currently in a spiritual battle. Abba Father, You said in your word to come to you when we are weary and burdened, and You will give us rest. So we thank you for the rest and peace that surpasses all understanding in advance. We thank you for the authority we possess over Satan and that the Victory is ours! May you continue to show us the spiritual authority we possess through your Son Jesus Christ to combat the attacks from the enemy. In Jesus Name, Amen.

I may expound on this more if the Lord leads me to. Until then, be encouraged.
